The Confucian Century is now upon us. Since China's entry into the WTO, the world economy has rapidly gravitated towards the Middle Kingdom. However, with cultural values completely independent of the West, if not diametrically opposite to it, China represents an enormous challenge and enigma to Western business leaders seeking a market there.

To date, cultural briefing on China (and East Asia) has largely been confined to demographic, economic, marketing or risk analyses. There has hardly been any cultural briefing focused on the psychological/behavioural understanding of one's clients/customers/negotiators/ managers as individuals. This lack of psychological understanding of a culturally alien market such as China is the single most important reason of business failures in East Asia.
